Has Crate Training Got
Your Heart Doing Somersaults?
Does the idea of crate training to try and harness that new
puppy of yours make you feel like a traitor? Contemplating
that little face staring back at you through the bars with
pleading eyes, your heart just melts, and you just know you
couldn’t possibly do that to your new friend.
Crate Training Puppies
Crate training
puppies does have its
advantages. While you are wavering, Dudley has the run
of the place and is having a blast getting into everything
he shouldn’t, chewing the furniture and maybe even your best
shoes (ouch, that hurts!). One thing is becoming
clearer every day: he’s in charge, and you’re
not. In fact, your life is quickly getting out of
control. Chaos is settling in.
Leaving the house is an exercise in frustration. You
feel guilty leaving him alone, and you spend the precious
little free time you have left rushing around to get all your
shopping chores done so you can get back to him quickly
- only to return to a total mess. He’s having a ball,
and your life is being flushed down the toilet.
Well, let me set your mind at rest. First, that Dudley
of yours knows exactly how to pull your strings. In fact,
I would go so far as to say that we canines have become masters
of the mournful look and the soulful sigh (my mom says we
hounds are Grand Masters of the Sigh!). Rest assured that
behind that doleful expression lies a calculating little brain
that is in fact just getting in gear for the day.
Dog Crate Training for Peace of
Mind
A Dog crate
training is really
part and parcel of dog training. Not only does a
crate make house training puppies a breeze, but it is the
only way to keep Dudley safe from various dangers lurking
in your home, specially when you are out.
Trust me, puppies are attracted to danger like bees to
honey. That lush hibiscus plant in the corner
of your living room is noxious to a dog. And oh,
what fun your puppy will have battling that ‘snake’ hiding
behind your TV; that may well cost him his life! And
just picture Dudley tripping you as you are carrying a pot of
hot water in the kitchen …
Canine Real Estate in a Crate?
You can see how crate training could spell safety for
puppies. But a crate is also a place where a puppy can
learn to respect the house rules by allowing you to restrict
his movements while you are busy. If used properly, a
crate can be the perfect tool to teach him to control his
bladder one step at a time.
A crate can be the best means to help an anxious puppy gain
emotional independence, specially if separation anxiety is an
issue. Done correctly, puppy crate training can gradually
instill confidence and offer a safe haven he will look forward
to.
But older dogs too can appreciate the advantages of a
crate. It can mean a quiet place reserved just for them
where they can relax without worrying about a child pulling
their tail, or someone stomping on their paws, away from the
hustle and bustle of a busy household - their own little piece
of real estate.
And not only do canines not pay tax on their real estate,
but they can use their crate or kennel to travel. In the
car or on the plane if you have to, their crate will not only
protect them but also reassure them that all is well with their
world until they reach destination.
Crate Training From the Inside
Out
Listen, there isn't a secret about crate training I haven't
sniffed out. The first nine months of my life were spent
jailed in a filthy crate. When my people adopted me,
they used a lovely big clean crate to help train me and
socialize me with my new feline sibblings. It was a nice
refuge of my own at the beginning of my new life.
So stick with me if you want to learn all the good, the bad,
and the ugly about crate
training a puppy. I think you’ll be pleasantly
surprised. But best of all, I’ll show you all the
tricks of proper crate training to help you change your
pooch’s behavior if he is being naughty, or even prevent
behavior problems before they rear their ugly heads.
Save yourself time, money, and aggravation. If you want
to regain control of your life and enjoy your own peaceful
haven, go find out what a professional trainer has to say about
